Changes...

It's been a long, long while - too darn long in fact! So let me update you on what's been going on with Alicia D. Photography and Alicia D - in general.

Alicia D. Photography is still alive and kicking - working hard on some editorial photography options for the website. I was hoping to unveil this project by June, but as it turns out life had some different plans.

Several weeks ago, I began the application process for a new position. Since that point, I've been busy preparing for this exciting change. Just last week, I began my new job as an Executive Director of a Federal Homeland Security Grant Program. I am thrilled to be able to continue building relationships with community first responders and supporting jurisdictions.

I know the next few months will be fun and busy - I hope to keep the blog, up to date, and the photography projects going, but I do know that the schedule will be a little different then originally planned. So - hang with me through this change - I totally believe it will help inspire my art, my life and yours!

10 Years Ago.

Ten years ago today was Senior Skip Day. Ten years ago today I watched students - high school counterparts - escape a building designed to be safe. Ten years ago I witnessed "Columbine". I grew up in Colorado - about three hours southwest of Littleton. I was heavily involved with Speech & Debate and I remember competing against Columbine students. I also vividly remember this sense of disbelief - ten years later that disbelief still exists. I say a prayer today to bless those impacted by the Columbine tragedy. I saw a prayer to guide us to help those, whether students or otherwise, in need.

Another Birthday - Another Year!

It's my birthday today - it's been a great day. M&D are headed to the Valley and the tulips are coming up through the yard!

I've received tons of birthday wishes from friends and family and I am so grateful. It's is fabulous to feel loved and remembered!

I'm happy and ready for another year - a year to simplify, a year to enjoy and a year to grow!

Cheers to all the amazing future experiences!

Reminiscing...

I'm looking forward to a visit from my family next week and while I think about them I begin to reminisce. I've headed back to archives - so bear with me!

I'm sure it is very clear where I get my silliness - we were teasing my grandmother about her driving - we should have been teasing my grandfather about his!

This is them - the impending visitors - more appropriately known as M & D. This is vintage M & D.

What it's all about - marshmallow shakes, wind in the hair, rev-ing engines and stalling out on Main Street! Ahhh, I miss it!

How to Tell A Story

My 3rd grade, my teacher, Mrs. Roche, was an amazing storyteller. She had an uncanny way of bringing things to life. She would gather the students, use funny voices and always tell us something interesting.

For me, photography is the same. When I pick up the camera, storytelling comes naturally - funny voices included! The peacful gaze or the uncontrollable laugh - the couple kissing on a park bench (awww!) or the kids distroying feather pillows (serious fun!).

If it captures an emotion, if it tells a story - it's worth every single spilt feather!

ATL - Alicia D Style!

Happily presenting Atlanta - Alicia D style! Enjoy!!

First - one must see Ebenezer Baptist Church - and experience all that MLK accomplished!

The artsy - flare version - a huge favorite of mine!

The Sweet Auburn Fire Station - an iconic civil rights area of ATL!

Switching gears - to the World of Coke - a recommendation from my parents - the pharmacists!

Snapped the giant coke bottle while sipping the best Cherry Coke!

Rented a vehicle one day to head out to Stone Mountain - quite an experience to say the least. I loved the tribute to the historical men of the South...

But found this at the base of the historical carving - it's Snow Mountain - and being from Utah this whole concept puzzled me. I'm fine with manufactured snow - we use it a lot to build a solid ski base - but the whole conveyor belt to get people back up the hill - ummm - cheating!

And finally, The Fox Theater - a historical landmark built in the late 20's with the Shriners and Fox - quite an interpretation of Middle Eastern architecture.

Atlanta was a great get-away - and now it's back to your regularly scheduled blog! :)

Time - or the lack thereof

Well - this is what happens when you have a week out of the office - things pile up and 40 hours turns into 60 hours trying to get everything back to normal. It's the excuse I'm running with anyway!

I haven't picked up my camera since last Monday morning and the memory card is full of photos from my weekend in Atlanta - I promise this weekend I'll get to downloading them and posting some great memories.
